Fish In A Birdcage & Shayfer James

FRI. MAY 30

7 PM

19+

After meeting to collaborate in 2024, Shayfer James and Dustan Townsend (Fish In A Birdcage) knew it made perfect sense to tour together and support their new albums 'Summoning' and 'Mentor,' respectively.

Fish in a Birdcage

Fish In A Birdcage is the experimental folk-pop project of Canadian singer-songwriter Dusty Townsend. After spending most of his childhood honing his craft on multiple instruments in conservatory studies, he took to the streets at the age of 16 as a busker, lucratively and creatively cutting his teeth on corners and at open mics with just a guitar, a tambourine, and a harmonica strapped to his neck.

Shayfer James

Shayfer James is an internationally touring American singer-songwriter, pianist, and composer known for hauntingly beautiful and bombastic music that blends elements of rock, pop, soul and cabaret. Shayfer has also collaborated and/or toured with the likes of Will Wood, Amigo The Devil, Fish In A Birdcage, Sparkbird and Kate Douglas.

Mind, Body, Pain Connection Expo

Mind, Body, Pain Connection Expo

The Mind, Body, Pain Connection Expo offers practical information on techniques to regulate the nervous system and address mental, physical, and emotional challenges.

With standard medical approaches often falling short, many are seeking effective, science-backed alternatives with proven results.

General admission includes access to lectures on various topics and opportunities for one-on-one conversations with practitioners. Limited space is available for active sessions like guided breathwork and yoga.

The expo focuses on the nervous system and unconscious mind, featuring insights on psychedelic-assisted therapy, post-experience integration, and micro-dosing strategies.

Practitioners from fields such as Specialized Kinesiology, EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, and Harmonic Therapy will also be present.

Once confined to spiritual circles, the mind-body connection is now recognized by science as a link between the conscious and unconscious mind through the nervous system. Many effective options beyond traditional medicine can help regulate the nervous system for a better quality of life.

*Please note that the possession, distribution or consumption of illegal substances is not permitted on the premises. All local, provincial and federal laws apply.

Speakers include:

Tashia Petker - Psilocybin and Cannabis: When and Why Plant Based Meds May be a Better Option

A PhD student in clinical psychology, Tashia Petker’s work focuses on the use of psychedelic assisted therapy to help address addictions to opioids and other harmful medication.

Jeff Sorensen - After the Trip: Integration Following Psychedelic Experiences

Learn the importance of integration after a psychedelic journey and how breath and nervous system regulation help not only integration of peak experiences, but, unwinding any problematic patterns in our lives.

Brett Ellis - Mushrooms: What, Why, How?

This discussion will cover some of the basic strategies and benefits surrounding microdosing.  When used properly, it can be a powerful and effective tool to combat a variety of mental, physical or emotional challenges.

Madeleine Eames and Dr. Marc Lourens - Chronic Pain: A Two-Way Street Between Mind and Body

This talk introduces the concepts of MBM, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind and body as a strategy to reduce stress and manage pain with little or no side effects.

To date, Mad Caddies have sold over 500,000 albums worldwide. The Mad Caddies sound has influences from broad ranging genres including ska (especially ska 3rd wave), punk rock, hardcore punk, reggae, dixieland jazz, Latin music, polka, even cowpunk ("Crew Cut Chuck") and sea shanties ("Weird Beard").

AUTHORITY ZERO (Mesa, AZ)
Authority Zero has never been called “negative.” Even during a pandemic, they kept their collective chin up, put their heads down and wrote what could be called their career album. Set for release in June, Authority Zero’s album “Ollie Ollie Oxen Free” takes a line from hide and seek to encourage fans to leave the COVID-19 depression behind and celebrate life. During the pandemic, singer Jason DeVore saw families torn apart by political views and COVID-19. Now that the divide has somewhat subsided, it’s time to come out and be yourself again.

THE CORPS (Vancouver, BC)
Examining personal and societal issues through the lens of the DC comic book universe, the band has seen international success with their unique lyrical content. Told from the perspective of heroes and villains alike, each song contains a fantastical tale that encourages repeat listens and exploration into the featured themes.

MEET THE BANDS!

The Dreadnoughts (Vancouver, BC)
THE DREADNOUGHTS aren’t really a band. They’re an advocacy group, ruthlessly promoting the idea that folk and punk music form a perfect union. They’ve been destroying stages and swilling ciders the world over, spreading their gospel to anyone and everyone who will listen.

The Real McKenzies (Vancouver, BC)
Founded in 1992 by the larger than life, Scottish punk-rock poet laureate, Mr Paul McKenzie, this merry band of miscreants has spent a quarter century circumnavigating the globe to bring the McKenzies gospel to an ever-expanding throng of rebels, scallywags and ne’er do wells. There’s not many bands that can boast of an over 30-year career as staggeringly adventurous, wildly tempestuous and utterly death-defying as THE REAL MCKENZIES. It would be a serious mistake to write them off as just another Celtic punk band (they’ve been around longer than the Dropkick Murphys after all).

Jeshua Marshall & The Flood (Bend, OR)
Jeshua started the Americana Punk band Larry And His Flask with his brother Jamin over 20 years ago. In LAHF and on his own Jeshua toured Europe 12 times, did the Vans Warped tour, played in every state in the US and every province in Canada. He has played countless festivals, concerts, and street corners.

He has worked with Danny Attack, Tommy V, Pedro Erazo (Gogol Bordello), Willy Tea Taylor, Jason Dea West, Gambeat (Radio Bemba Sound System and Manu Chao), and Alfredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys & Gogol Bordello).
